I went to visit oink today, and I found out the british government has finally shut down oink.cd
I looked onto almost every other music blogger's site whom i follow, and confirmed that officially, the dream is over: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1572554/20071023/index.jhtml?rsspartner=rssMozilla
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SITE IN THE WORLD!
It is almost as if I lost my best (digital) friend.
This particular website was invite only, did not contain videos, required a strict ul/dl ratio... but despite those minor setbacks, it had undoubtably the largest and most eclectic music collection in the world. You could find the most obscure releases, international, hard to find singles, b-sides, remixes... and it was so organized and well put together!
not to mention the books, programs and applications...
I mean, in all honesty we all knew it would end one day, but damn.
* if you don't know what Oink was... just pretend you never read this.
i now write to you directly because i am experiencing a problem with my account. i find your service to be quite useless for the following reasons:
1. over half the people i subscribed to in college now have day jobs that are apparently a lot more important than keeping a daily blog about their lives.
2. for my friends who actually still use your service daily/periodically, they seem to just blog about things i don't care about or about people i don't know.
3. i no longer happen to stalk or want to fuck anyone i subscribe to.
4. i have never been on your homepage as a featured blogger.
5. blogger/wordpress seems to be where the real action is - as in blogs i actually care about.
Now I've never done this (asking a question to my subscribers or anyone who happens to jump onto my page)... but the biggest question of all:
Does anyone else feel the same way?
OR
Is this just the post-college aftermath? Has the rest of the world just moved on?
*i know a bunch of you are going to see this and not respond. i'm talking to YOU, person who still gets these in there e-mails and tells me when i see them in person that they still read my entries. YOU know who YOU are!
but fuck my gym membership. all i need to get me going is my skateboard.
i come home today feeling pretty tired. i don't work crazy hours, i just have a 40 minute commute i deal with every day. no traffic, just a long distance. i keep myself busy by learning mandarin thru pimnsler's audio recordings i have bootlegged on my iPod. as my vocabulary and limited understanding grows the distance towards my destination diminishes.
to help add to my fatigue I had nothing but ribs and carl's jr to eat all day. after work i went to the life drawing class i take over at mt. sac every monday and wednesday. our nude model was nowhere to be found when class started so our teacher just showed us a bunch of slides, mainly of michelangelo's old sketches and remembered about 2 hours into the class that the model called to cancel about a week ago.
despite being let out of class an hour early, i am still dead tired.
so anyways, i was reading something today about deceased skateboarder harold howard and was really inspired to skate the church next to my appartment.
i lost my board about a month ago and have since bought a new one. i really hadn't gotten a chance to skate it, so i figured tonight would be a nice oppertunity. although i couldn't land 75% of the tricks I used to, ollieing over cherbs and trying to 180 the 3-stair proved to be a hefty 30 minute workout. i forget sometimes how much i miss it. without a care in the world whizzing around in a parking lot thinking up ideas and feeling free. i'm actually no longer tired and actually feel more alive than I've been in a while.
if havn't noticed i don't really blog about anything else but music, so here we go:
this summer has been amazing for live shows. i know i complain all the time about how the summer is the absolute worst, but this one has been pretty decent... mainly me getting a chance to see one of my childhood favorites every weekend.
Especially RAGE & MANSON.
7/15 - Smashing Pumpkins 7/15 (San Francisco) 8/11 - Rock the Bells: Wu Tang Clan & Rage Against the Machine 8/19 - Beastie Boys 8/25 - Marilyn Manson & Slayer 9/08 - Raekwon, GZA & Killah Priest 9/13 - Built to Spill
Today - LA Invasion: Smashing Pumpkins & Foo Fighters
upcoming: 09/21 - Muse 09/26 - Bad Brains 10/02 - Atmosphere 10/12 - Aesop Rock, CAGE, Blockhead 10/28 - Glassjaw (The Avalon) 10/29 - Ghostface Killah, Rakim, Brother Ali 10/30 - Glassjaw (The Glasshouse) 10/31 - DJ Krush 11/14 - Silverchair 12/14 - Tori Amos
However, I really wish I got a chance to see Daft Punk. I never got into their records much as a kid, but I finally got a chance to take a few deep listens into their older albums and from everyone, I hear their live show is amazing.
so today has been a musically orgazmic day for me.
this is whyyyyyy:
1. WU TANG CLAN - 8 Diagrams EPK
yeaaaaaaaaaaahhh boyyyyyeee!
2. NEW Atmosphere song(s), new record. http://myspace.com/atmosphere
as much as I thought boy sold out, and saturated the fuck out of 2005 with his mediocre releases (felt 2, you don't know how much fun we're having) and sold backpack rap to whites exclusively (a live band? wtf. even i felt out of place). he's back. so check that summertime record son. he even quotes the summertime king himself, Mr. Will Smith.
3. A shitload of new tracks on nahright.com & analoggiant.com I ain't checked: murs, shadow, aesop rock & more!
4. shia labuff (transformers, a guide to recognizing your saints, holes, etc) wants to do a movie about CAGE?!?!?!!? no joke, read here. CARDBOARD CITY REPRESENT!
5. ...and best for last a NEW CRAIG DAVID joint w/ KANO?!?!?!?!!?
i love craig david, not because of his looks or ability to sing, but dude knows how to choose production. he's a great singer no doubt, but he's always got this inside track w/ the more 'underground' UK sound, ie: garage /two step and now DUBSTEP & GRIME?!?!
video:
... and I was just complaining last week that there wasn't anything new!
